THE FEEL
The Skinker DeBalievere neighborhood offers a wide selection of housing, from literal mansions along Lindell to affordable apartments for students and young families. Regardless of size, many of the buildings here feature the artistic details of a bygone era: exquisitely detailed millwork, artistic stained glass, and large fireplace mantles with bookcases.
Close to Washington University in St. Louis, this area has true mix of ages and income levels. Both the Loop and Forest Park are a short walk away, and yet the neighborhood enjoys a certain peace and quiet as if it were remote.
HISTORY
With ties to the 1904 World’s Fair, the neighborhood was designated a Local Historic District in 1978. A private subdivision, Parkview, is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

Between main roads Skinker and Forest Park Parkway, and with easy access to the Delmar MetroLink and bus system, Skinker-DeBaliviere is one of the most walkable neighborhoods in St. Louis.
CULTURE
The cultural diversity here is evident in the shops, restaurants, and businesses that line Skinker, DeBaliviere, and Delmar. The neighborhood is also home to several culture and ethnic festivals, as well as intellectual activities centering at nearby Washington University and Forest Park.

Residents enjoy nearby Delmar Loop for shopping, dining, and entertainment. The best new artists (and old) come to The Pageant, the best movies are shown at the Tivoli, and the best drinks are had on top of Moonrise Hotel.

Skinker-DeBaliviere is part of the St. Louis City School District. The neighborhood provides a good blend of private and public schools. Also in the nearby University City is renowned creative arts center COCA, which offers a variety of programs to students.

Forest Park | 1,371 acres, Forest Park receives 13 million annuals visitors. Containing biking and running paths, tennis courts, paddle boats and athletic fields — to name a few, it houses the Missouri History Museum, Saint Louis Zoo, Saint Louis Art Museum, the Saint Louis Science Center, and The Muny.
